Fruit description: The Kei Apple can fruit abundantly. The fruit is soft skinned, orange, 50 mm in diameter. The flesh is juicy and the flavour is mild and like a plum, tasty and slightly sour. It contains several seeds.
Flowers: The flowers are small and not showy. The male and female flowers occur on different plants.
Growing conditions: The Kei Apple is a small subtropical evergreen tree that can also be grown as a dense hedge. It has long thorns, small birds make nests in Kei Apple plants. It is it quite hardy and can tolerate frost, drought and salty air. It prefers a warm moist climate.
Uses: You can eat Kei Apple fresh or with sugar. It makes good desserts, pickles and jam.
