Fruit description: Wampi fruit are small oval berry-like fruit, about 4cm long. They occur in large bunches hanging from the ends of the branches. Ripe fruit have a thin edible skin which is a dull yellow to brown colour. The flesh inside is yellow green, with a refreshing, sweet, juicy grape-like texture. Each contains 1 small edible seeds.

Growing conditions: The Wampi is a glossy, evergreen, small bush which grows to 3 metres high. It gives good shade and the tree is very attractive. The leaves when crushed have a pleasant strong aroma. The tree can grow in many different types of soil, but prefers well drained rich soil. It can tolerate a warm, subtropical or tropical climate. It is quite hardy, and will tolerate light frost. Plant it in a warm sunny position, fertilise with citrus fertiliser, and water well. There is no need to prune the tree as the fruit grows on the tips of the branches.
Uses: Eat Wampi fruit fresh, or make into jam, pies, or desserts. The fresh fruit is very popular in Asia.
Medicinal uses: Wampi fruit are rich in vitamin C.

Harvest time Harvest in Wampi fruit in Summer when the fruit is ripe, sweet and aromatic.
