Flowers: The flowers have no petals.
Growing conditions: Cassava likes warm, subtropical and tropical coastal climates. It grows best in a rich sandy soil with plenty of Summer rain. This handsome perennial shrub grows to about 2 metres in height. It has soft stems and palm like leaves. It can be grown in a pot. It is moderately frost tolerant.
Uses: Cassava is toxic and must be cooked before eating. Use the tuber like potatoes, roast, fry as chips, boil, steam, bake, mash. It can be used in puddings and breads. You can dry the cassava, and grind it to flour or make tapioca. The leaves are a good source of protein but must be cooked properly before eating.

Harvest time You will get tubers on the plant within 6 months of planting. The tubers can be left in the ground until required. Only dig up the roots as you need them because they quickly blacken and decay.
