Fruit description: The fruit resembles cherries. It turns from green, through red to shiny dark purple black when ripe. The flavour is sweet and sour.
Flowers: The white flowers are only 5 mm in diameter and smell sweet.
Growing conditions: The Jambolan Plum is an evergreen tree which grows quickly, reaching a height of 8 metres. It is an excellent shade tree as it has dense foliage and is very handsome. It is mildly frost tolerant.
Uses: The fruit is eaten fresh, or juiced. It is a very good source of vitamins C and A. It is used as a treatment of diabetes.
Medicinal uses: Traditionally the seeds are used to treat digestive problems. The bark and leaves are traditionally used for gum disease and to treat high blood pressure. It is used as a treatment of diabetes.
