Fruit description: The fruit is a long knobbly fruit about 20cm long and 10cm wide which turns from yellow to cream coloured when ripe. It has a strong odour.
Flowers: The 5 or 6 petalled star shaped flowers are white, produced in Spring.
Growing conditions: The Noni fruit tree is evergreen, grows fast and reaches a height up to 5 metres. It has large shiny leaves with deep veins. It can tolerate only light frost. It likes full sun, tolerates saline and sandy soils, growing well on the coast, and drought prone areas.
Uses: Noni Fruit are juiced for herbal medicines. The leaves are edible, raw or steamed like spinach. The bark can be used to make purple-brown dye, as used in Batik Fabric dyeing.
Medicinal uses: Traditionally, Aboriginal, Asian, and Polynesian people used extracts from various parts of the Noni Fruit tree to treat urinary infection, period pain and some diseases.
Pollination requirements: Self-Pollinating.
Harvest time The fruit ripens in Autumn.
