Plant origin: Australia's East Coast, from South of Sydney to North Queensland.
Fruit description: The Plum Pine bears lovely very unusual shaped fruit which is small, blue, lobed 2cm plum with 2 round fleshy seeds attached to its outside. The fruits occur on the branches or at their tips. The plum's edible skin has a white bloom. The juicy flesh is grape like and the flavour is sweet and subtle. The fruit attracts birds.

Growing conditions: The Plum Pine is a beautiful pine tree which grows to about 10 metres tall. It has dense stiff thin pointed leaves 5 to 15cm long. New growth is pinkish. It doesn't mind frost or dry conditions. It grows well in full sunshine or in the shade. It makes a great hedge or grows well in a pot.
Uses: Eat the fruit fresh or use it for jams.

Pollination requirements: Separate Male and Female trees are needed to cross-pollinate and to produce fruit.
Harvest time Pick the fruit when they give slightly when gently pressed.

Special features: This tree makes a superb and unusual bonsai specimen. The timber of the plum pine is prized for cabinet making and for boat lining timber, being able to resist salt water. The Plum Pine is native to rainforest on Australia's East coast, from South of Sydney to North Queensland. It is a very primitive plant.
