Fruit description:
Flowers: Stevia has pretty little white star-shaped flowers in Summer.
Growing conditions: Stevia is an herbaceous perennial plant, and grows to about 50cm tall. The leaves are soft, bright green, with a serrated edge. Stevia likes a moist, rich, well-drained soil, full or part sunshine, and warm, subtropical or tropical climates. It must be protected from frost. It grows well in a pot.
Uses: Stevia is a natural herbal sweetener much sweeter than cane sugar, with no calories, ideal for controlling sugar or calory intakes. It can be used to sweeten drinks or foods. The flavour of fresh Stevia initially is extreme sweetness but this later changes in the mouth to a licorice flavour.
