Fruit description: Do you want a fruit that is very unique ? Wax Jambu fruit are a beautiful pink to red bell-shaped fruit, with an unusual glossy and waxy skin. They are crisp and refreshing to eat, with a subtle agreeable flavour. The flesh is pale pink near the skin, and white inside near the core, and the juice is a pale pink. Our Wax Jambu Variety have fruit with no seeds. Fruits occur in bunches all over the tree, and are in abundant quantities. Kids love to climb the tree and eat the fruit !
Flowers:
Growing conditions: Wax Jambu is an attractive evergreen tree with large glossy dark green leaves, and colourful pink to bronze new growth. It likes a warm subtropical or temperate climate, and can tolerate light frost. It likes plenty of water when the fruit are developing. It will grow and fruit easily in a pot.
Uses: The fruit of Wax Jambu is eaten fresh, including the skin, there is most flavour around the skin than in the centre of the fruit. Wax Jambu are used to make a crisp and refreshing addition to fruit salads, or used in savoury dishes such as Asian salads.
Medicinal uses: The fruit is very rehydrating when eaten in summer.
Pollination requirements: Self – Pollinating. The flowers and fruit of the Wax Jambu are borne in clusters along all branches and trunks. The flowers have a very sweet honey scent, and appear as large white pom-poms.
Harvest time The Wax Jambu starts to fruit in its first season. There are 2 Harvest seasons for Wax Jambu, the first is in December, the second is in January. Store ripe fruit in the fridge to keep them crisp.
